What contaminated soil work involves on a real site on the Gold Coast

Contaminated soil removal is an evidence job as much as an earthmoving job. It sits between demolition and construction on brownfield sites, former service stations and industrial land, infill development, and rail and road corridors. Your consultant writes the detailed site investigation (DSI) and the remediation action plan (RAP). We price to that plan and work to it.

Classification against the RAP and DSI

Material is staged and classified on site by your consultant, general solid waste kept apart from restricted waste.

    Excavation and segregation

Hand picking of asbestos fragments through to bulk excavation, clean and dirty material kept apart at the face. Dewatering where the RAP requires it.

    Stockpile management

Stockpiles segregated by classification, with wet suppression, exclusion zones, decontamination units, erosion and traffic controls. See civil works and detailed excavation.

    Tracking dockets and licensed transport

Every load tracked to a licensed facility with chain of custody. Gate rates documented and dockets passed through load by load.

    Validation and sign off

Independent validation by your consultant, backed by a documentation pack the auditor can audit.

    Contaminants we deal with

Asbestos in soil, bonded and friable. Hydrocarbon impacted material from fuel tanks at service stations and depots. Heavy metal impacted material. Acid sulfate soil. PCB contaminated soil. Lead paint and lead dust. Buried waste. Organic toxins. Flood mud and sediment. Each changes the controls, the classification and the facility.

Asbestos contaminated soil under our own licence

Asbestos in fill is handled under a Queensland friable asbestos removal licence and a Queensland demolition licence, both held by the group directly, with our own enclosure and decontamination plant for Class A work. The method scales from hand picking of bonded fragments to bulk excavation under Class A controls, with independent air monitoring by a hygienist where the RAP calls for it. Because the licence and crew are ours, there is no second contractor when asbestos turns up. See friable asbestos removal.

    Plant and crews

Our own fleet runs from 0.8 tonne to 35 tonne excavators, plus positracks, hook trucks and skips, tippers, EWPs and Brokks. Crews are our own, not subcontracted out, and our own crews run the asbestos, the demolition and the soil under one supervisor on site.

    Who we work for

Builders and head contractors, developers on brownfield parcels, and government and infrastructure clients including Transport for NSW, Sydney Metro joint ventures, councils and Defence. Environmental consultants who need a contractor to deliver their RAP. Landowners of contaminated industrial sites, fuel companies removing tanks, and insurers and asset owners after fire or flood. Soil work is usually bundled with demolition, tank removal and early works so one contractor covers every stage.

Worth knowing: removal, tracked transport to a licensed facility and the dockets and records the consultant needs for validation, in one contract. The classification in the RAP drives the price more than the volume, so send the DSI and the RAP with the tender. If there is a cheaper compliant path, we flag it first.

Where we work on the Gold Coast

Excavators and trucks float down from our Slacks Creek yard for the job, and an estimator walks the site before pricing. Soil work on the Gold Coast runs across Yatala and Stapylton, Ormeau, Arundel and Molendinar, infill sites around Southport and Robina, Burleigh and West Burleigh, Currumbin and the southern industrial estates, Coolangatta, and former service station and depot sites along the M1 corridor. Our contaminated land teams also travel nationally.

    Our track record

The Queensland crew and plant come from Slacks Creek. Soil work on the books includes asbestos contaminated soil remediation at Bonnyrigg Estate Stage 2, hydrocarbon impacted soil treated in biopiles at Emu Plains and the BP service station tanks and contaminated soil at Parramatta. The method, the paperwork and the licences are the same in Queensland as on the NSW jobs linked above. The whole service is on the soil and site remediation hub.

Questions we get from Gold Coast clients

Do you do the soil testing and the classification?

No. Your environmental consultant classifies the material and validates the site. We excavate to their RAP, stage material for them to classify, cart it under that classification and hand back the dockets.

How is asbestos in soil handled on the Gold Coast?

Under our own asbestos licence, not a subcontractor, from hand picking to bulk excavation under Class A controls with exclusion zones, decontamination units and air monitoring. See asbestos and hazmat removal Queensland.

Where does the material go and how do I prove it?

Every load is tracked to a licensed facility with chain of custody, and the docket and gate rate are passed through load by load. You get a documentation pack the auditor can audit.

Can clean material stay on site?

Often, yes. On-site classification keeps clean and dirty material separated, so clean fill never leaves at restricted waste rates. Where the RAP allows treatment or reuse on site, we set it up, as with the biopiles at Emu Plains.

Other places we remove contaminated soil

We also run contaminated soil removal in Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast. The full service is on the soil and site remediation hub, asbestos work for the state is on asbestos and hazmat removal Queensland, and demolition on the Gold Coast is on demolition contractors Gold Coast.

Got contaminated soil on the Gold Coast to remove?

Send the DSI and the RAP through the form above, or call. You will hear back from an estimator, not a call centre.
