Commitment to Sustainable Practices

Sustainable Practices on Major Projects

Perfect Contracting works on large commercial, civil, industrial and infrastructure projects, often as principal contractor and often for Tier 1 builders. At that scale sustainability stops being a statement on a website and becomes a schedule in the contract with numbers attached.

That is the version we deal with, and it is the version this page is about.

Material recovery at scale

On a major demolition the material stream is the whole story. Thousands of tonnes of concrete, structural steel, reinforcement, brick, aluminium and copper come out of a structure, and almost all of it has a market.

Resource Efficiency - Perfect Contracting
Perfect's team trained to prioritize sustainability

Concrete and masonry are crushed and reused as fill or road base, often on the same project. Structural steel and reinforcement go to scrap recovery, which for us is a service line in its own right rather than an afterthought. What makes this possible is sequencing. You cannot recover clean streams from a building that has been pushed over in one hit, so the deconstruction order is planned around recovery from the start.

The machines we choose, and why

A demolition site is plant heavy by definition. Remote demolition machines matter here for more than safety. A Brokk working inside a structure replaces a larger machine and a lot of hand breaking, and it lets us take a structure apart in a controlled sequence rather than a destructive one, which is exactly what keeps the material streams clean and saleable.

Recycling and Waste Management

Haulage is the biggest single lever

On a job running hundreds of truck movements, how those trucks are loaded and routed matters more than anything else we do.

Load sizes matched to the material rather than the truck, movements combined where two jobs share a corridor, and routes planned to keep heavy vehicles off residential streets and away from schools. It reduces fuel, it reduces complaints, and on a project with a traffic management plan it is the difference between running to programme and running to a consent breach.

Reporting that survives an audit

Hazardous material is the other half of environmental performance on our jobs. Asbestos, contaminated soil, hydrocarbons, lead and underground storage tanks are handled under our own licences rather than subcontracted, which keeps the chain of custody in one place.

Future Innovations

Head contractors and government clients audit this properly. Waste classification, transport dockets, receiving facility receipts, validation reporting on contaminated ground. We produce it as the job runs rather than assembling it at the end, because assembling it at the end is how gaps appear. If you need our documentation to sit inside your project management plan, tell us at tender stage and we will format it to suit.

Demolition will never be a low impact activity. What can change is how much of a building comes back as material rather than fill, and how early recovery is designed into the job. The projects where this works best are the ones where we are brought in during ECI and can influence the sequence before the programme is locked.
