Industrial demolition is a different trade to knocking down a building
An industrial site in Brisbane comes with things a commercial building does not: plant that may still be live next door, process residues in tanks and pipework, asbestos lagging on everything hot, heavy steel that is worth money if it is cut properly, and ground that has had eighty years of whatever the plant made soaked into it. The method has to deal with all of that in the right order. Isolate and decommission, clean and certify the vessels, strip the hazmat, then dismantle the steel and structure with the plant matched to the weight, and finish with the slabs, footings and ground.
Our Queensland yard is at Slacks Creek in the middle of the southside industrial belt, so plant and crew are local and an estimator can walk a Brisbane site within a day or two. Work in Brisbane runs across the Australia TradeCoast, Eagle Farm and Pinkenba, Acacia Ridge and Archerfield, Rocklea and Salisbury, Wacol and Richlands, Yatala and Stapylton, Logan, Ipswich and the Swanbank and Redbank industrial areas. If the job is a conventional building rather than plant, our full building demolition Brisbane page covers that, and for mine sites see mine demolition and closure.
What the package includes
Decommissioning and isolation
Services and process lines isolated, locked out and proven dead, residues drained, and the shutdown sequence agreed with your operations team. See plant decommissioning.
Tanks, silos and vessels
Cleaned, degassed and certified before anyone cuts. Above ground and underground tanks, silos, hoppers, boilers and pressure vessels removed whole or sectioned. See silo, tank and vessel cleaning.
Structural steel and heavy plant
Portal frames, gantries, conveyors, stacks and process structures dismantled in engineered sequence with high reach excavators and shears, crawler cranes where a piece has to come out whole, and remote machines where people should not be.
Hazmat under our own licence
Asbestos lagging, limpet, gaskets and sheet, lead paint and SMF removed by our Class A crews before the structure is touched. No second contractor and no gap in the programme.
Steel recovery and recycling
Steel cut, sized and weighed with the credit shown on your price, concrete crushed for reuse on site or recycled, and a recycling report for the environmental submission. See steel recycling and scrap recovery.
Slabs, footings and ground
Slabs and machine bases broken out, footings and pits removed, and contaminated ground remediated and validated so the site is handed back on survey and ready for what comes next.
Worth knowing: the residues in the plant and the contents of the hazmat register set the price more than the tonnage does. Send the process description, the hazmat register and any environmental site assessment with the tender and the number will be right the first time. We hold a Queensland demolition licence and a Class A friable asbestos licence recognised by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, so the whole package stays with one contractor.
Our track record
The Queensland crew runs from Slacks Creek with the same estimators, supervisors and plant as our New South Wales work. Industrial jobs on the books include Munmorah Power Station, three warehouses in Mascot, the Manildra flour mill, the Corrimal coke works and the Rozelle acoustic sheds with a 650 tonne crawler crane. Ask for Queensland references when you call and we will give you the current list.
Questions we get from Brisbane clients
Can you demolish inside a plant that is still operating?
Yes, and it is most of what industrial work is. We isolate and lock out the section, build the exclusion zone around the live plant, and sequence the demolition so production keeps running next door. Live plant work needs a proper method statement and a shutdown window agreed with your operations team, and we write both.
What happens to the steel and the plant?
Structural steel, plant and machinery are cut, sized and weighed, and the scrap value is credited against your price. Large items can be lifted out whole for resale or relocation if you want them. See steel recycling and scrap recovery for how the credit works.
Do you handle the hazardous materials and the contamination?
Yes. Asbestos lagging, sprayed limpet, gaskets and sheet come out under our own Class A licence before the structure is touched. Tanks and vessels are cleaned, degassed and certified before cutting, see silo, tank and vessel cleaning. Contaminated ground under the slab is dealt with as contaminated land remediation, so the site is handed back ready for the next use, not with a surprise in the ground.
Do you do sheds and small industrial units in Brisbane?
We do commercial and industrial work for asset owners, developers, builders and operators. A small shed or a single unit for a private owner is usually better served by a local demolisher. If it is part of an estate, a redevelopment or a plant, send it through.
Other places we demolish industrial sites
This page is about Brisbane. We also run industrial demolition in Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, and we mobilise nationally for plant, power and mine work.
