Demolition of three warehouses in Mascot
Project Details
- Client Urban Fitouts
- Location 1-5 Chalmers Cres, Mascot
- Duration 4 weeks
Perfect Contracting were engaged by Urban Fitouts & Constructions to complete the demolition of 3x warehouses that used to house catering business. This wasn’t a simple warehouse demolition as it was 3 interconnecting warehouses, each structurally different, containing over 300 tonnes of cool room panels, 600m2 of Asbestos ‘Super Six’ roofing, 80m2 of asbestos containing vermiculite and 400m2 second story office. The total work area of the warehouse was approximately 2500m2.
The works had to be done methodically as there were adjoining properties on either side of the property and multi-level car park behind the property. Works commenced with HAZMAT removal involving a team of 4-5 members and it went for one week. The HAZMAT team stacked and double plastic wrapped the super six sheets and utilised a telehandler to bring the materials down in a controlled safe manner.
The warehouse’s demolition commenced with creating access at 5 Chalmers and making our way towards 1 Chalmers. We started with our 15T excavator and as space was created, we introduced the 30T excavator to do the bulk of the works and the 5T to help with the loading. A 150T crane also had to be used to bring down 30m long structural beams at 1 Chalmers.
Overall, it took approximately 3-4 weeks to complete the works. And it was another successful job for Perfect Contracting.
