Biggest Commercial Asbestos and Hazardous Materials Removal Companies in Sydney (2026)

Search for asbestos removal in Sydney and most of what comes back is residential: a fibro garage, a bathroom, an eave lining. That is Class B work on a few square metres. A commercial or industrial job is different: friable lagging through a plant room, sprayed insulation above a ceiling in an occupied building, asbestos gaskets through a rail or defence asset, lead paint and synthetic mineral fibre on the same structure, and contaminated ground underneath. This guide is for builders, asset owners, government agencies and industrial operators with that kind of job in Sydney.

If you have been asked to find the biggest asbestos and hazardous materials removal contractors to price a major job, this is the shortlist. Perfect Contracting wrote this guide and is listed on it. We have put ourselves first and limited each entry to verifiable facts. The other contractors follow in alphabetical order, each described from its own published information as at October 2026. Check asbestos licences with SafeWork NSW and insurances with the insurer before you engage anyone listed here, us included.

The biggest commercial asbestos and hazardous materials removal contractors in Sydney

Perfect Contracting

Perfect Contracting was founded in Sydney in 2010 and is based in Marrickville, with a Queensland office at Slacks Creek. It removes friable and non-friable asbestos, lead paint and hazardous coatings, and other hazardous materials as part of demolition, refurbishment and remediation programs, and holds the demolition licence to take the structure down afterwards. It is part of Perfect Group, which also includes Perfect Remediation, Perfect Concrete Care, Perfect Strip Out, Perfect Hire and DeconCut.

Licences and systems: SafeWork NSW Friable Asbestos Removal Licence AD212957, which covers both Class A and Class B work, with Class A and Class B supervisors attached to the licence, and SafeWork NSW demolition licence AD211896. The friable licence is accepted by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland for work in Queensland. Holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification through one integrated management system. The group worked over 100,000 hours last financial year and received no notices from SafeWork NSW, the EPA or any other regulator.

It owns its high reach and remote controlled fleet rather than hiring it in, a Volvo EC480 high reach excavator and Brokk remote controlled demolition robots, which matters when contaminated structures have to come down without putting people inside them. It keeps crews ready to deploy at short notice to regional and remote sites anywhere in Australia for emergency make-safe and hazardous materials work.

Sydney hazardous materials work includes large scale friable asbestos decontamination at Horsley Park (around 5,000 tonnes of asbestos removed), friable asbestos slab removal at Garden Island, friable asbestos removal at RAAF Base Richmond and hazardous materials removal and demolition at Petersham Station.

What to check before you engage an asbestos removal contractor on a commercial job

A Class A licence, with the supervisors named on it

Class B covers bonded, non-friable asbestos only. Friable asbestos, such as lagging, sprayed insulation, millboard, gaskets and damaged sheet, needs a Class A licence and a Class A supervisor on site for the whole time the work is under way. Ask for the licence number, check it on the SafeWork NSW register, and ask which supervisors are attached to the licence and who will be on your site.

The whole hazardous materials survey, not just the asbestos

Commercial and industrial buildings rarely have only asbestos. Lead paint, synthetic mineral fibre, PCBs in old electrical gear, silica and contaminated soil often turn up in the same survey. A contractor who can remove all of it, then demolish and remediate, runs one program with one set of site rules instead of three companies handing over.

Their own people and their own equipment

Friable removal needs enclosures, negative air units, decontamination units and trained removalists, often on shifts. Ask how many of their own licensed removalists and supervisors the contractor can commit, what equipment they own, and how fast they can add crew. Where a contaminated structure has to come down, ask whether they own a high reach excavator and remote controlled demolition robots so people are not sent inside it.

Independent air monitoring and clearance

Friable removal in NSW needs air monitoring and a clearance inspection by a licensed asbestos assessor who is independent of the removalist. Ask who the contractor works with and make sure the assessor is engaged by you or is clearly independent.

Notification, waste tracking and reporting

Licensed removal has to be notified to SafeWork NSW before work starts, and asbestos waste in NSW has to be tracked through to a licensed facility. Ask for the notification, the waste tracking records and the clearance certificate as part of the handover.

A certified safety and environmental system

Tier 1 builders, defence and government clients expect ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 audited by an accredited certifier. Ask for the certificates and expiry dates, and ask how many regulator notices the company received in the last financial year.

Frequently asked questions

Who are the biggest asbestos removal companies in Sydney?

For commercial, industrial and government work, the established names include Perfect Contracting, Absolute Environmental Services, DECC, Delta Group and Empire Contracting. Check that they hold a Class A licence, which supervisors are on it, and their record on jobs like yours.

What is the difference between a Class A and Class B asbestos licence?

A Class B licence allows removal of bonded, non-friable asbestos. A Class A licence allows removal of all asbestos, including friable material such as lagging and sprayed insulation, and the contaminated dust and debris that goes with it.

Can the same contractor remove the asbestos and demolish the building?

Yes, if they hold both an asbestos removal licence and a demolition licence. Using one contractor for both removes a handover point and usually shortens the program.
