    Asbestos Removal After Fire Sydney

Asbestos and Hazmat Clean Up After Fire in Sydney

Fire and asbestos make safe in Sydney: Friable and bonded asbestos, lead paint, fire ash and sludge

    • Friable and bonded asbestos, lead paint, fire ash and sludge under one licence
    • Enclosure where the structure allows it, wet methods where the roof is gone
    • Dockets, monitoring results and the assessor's clearance in one pack
    • Enclosure or wet suppression to the assessor's plan

When a commercial or industrial building burns, the bonded asbestos in its roof sheeting, fibro, insulation and gaskets breaks up and spreads across the site as friable debris. We remove it under our own Class A licence, enclosed or wet suppressed to the assessor's plan, and hand the insurer and certifier an audit ready pack. Commercial and industrial sites only.

Why burnt asbestos is a Class A job in Sydney

In a fire the Super Six roof, wall sheeting and ceiling tiles crack and fall, and the law treats every broken piece, and the ash it landed in, as friable. If anyone is in danger, call 000 first, then call us. The job runs in a fixed order.

    Make safe first

If the structure is unstable, our demolition crews set the exclusion zone and brace to the engineer's design first.

    Register, survey and plan

We check the register and survey, or price a survey first. Control plan and SWMS issued, SafeWork NSW notified before licensed removal starts.

    Enclosure or open air controls

Enclosure built and smoke tested with negative air throughout where the structure allows it. Where the roof is gone, the site is encapsulated or worked open air with wet suppression to the assessor's plan.

    Removal and waste

Licensed removalists under a licensed supervisor take scorched sheet down by hand; ash and sludge go out in lined skips and vacuum trucks. Waste double bagged, tracked to a licensed facility, dockets back to you.

    Assessor monitoring and clearance

An independent licensed asbestos assessor monitors the air throughout, inspects before the enclosure comes down and issues the clearance. Plan, SWMS, dockets, results, photos and the assessor's clearance in one pack.

    Scope we take on

Asbestos and hazmat clean up after fire, storm or flood in commercial and industrial buildings. Friable and bonded asbestos removed under our own Class A licence. Contaminated ash, debris and sludge. Lead paint and coatings on burnt steel and concrete. Chemical rooms and biohazard made safe. Structural make safe by our own demolition crews, see emergency demolition Sydney, then demolition of what the fire finished.

    What we do not do

We do not do restoration, drying, contents cleaning, smoke odour treatment, mould remediation as a service, make good or fit out. We do not design or certify anything.

    Plant, crews and supervision

Our own decontamination units, negative air plant and enclosure crews, with a licensed friable supervisor on site the whole time. Our own excavators, hook trucks and lined skips. Cranes, vacuum trucks and EWPs are hired per job. Photos: the Horsley Park enclosure and the Muswellbrook decontamination unit, both planned jobs.

    Licences and systems

Our SafeWork NSW Class A friable asbestos licence covers non friable work as well, so an unexpected find does not stand the job down, and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland recognises it. We also hold a restricted demolition licence in New South Wales and a Queensland demolition licence. More on the licences and insurance page.

    Who we work for

Insurers, loss adjusters and insurance builders. Facility managers and strata managers of commercial buildings. Councils. Industrial owners with a burnt plant. Principal contractors who need the hazmat stage done first.

Worth knowing: the hazardous materials register decides the method and the price. Send it with the engineer's advice and photos and we price asbestos, hazmat and make safe as one package.

    Where we work in Sydney

Head office, the decontamination fleet and the negative air plant are in Marrickville. The fire asbestos jobs on the books, Canterbury and Crows Nest, are both Sydney jobs. Sites in Sydney include burnt warehouses and factories at Marrickville, Alexandria, Botany, Silverwater, Wetherill Park, Eastern Creek and St Marys, commercial buildings across the CBD, Parramatta and the North Shore, council depots and waste facilities.

Fire and flood asbestos work we have done in New South Wales

At the fire damaged warehouse at Canterbury the Super Six roof burned and falling debris contaminated the whole site, so it was encapsulated as one bubble with a decontamination unit, lined skips and vacuum trucks, and the assessor's air monitoring declared it safe before demolition. At the fire gutted warehouse at Crows Nest friable and bonded material came down by hand inside a bubble, the facade walls braced first, and air monitoring deemed the site clear. After the 2022 floods we worked for insurance builders Johns Lyng Group and Paynters at the Presbyterian Church in Lismore and the Lismore schools, and for Lipman on Cabbage Tree Island: asbestos out by hand under controls, independent assessor clearances on file. Questions we get from Sydney clients

Who issues the clearance certificate, you or the assessor?

The independent licensed asbestos assessor issues the clearance, not us. The assessor monitors the air while we work and inspects before the enclosure comes down. Your hygienist tests the material and sets the criteria.

Does the whole building have to be empty?

Often not. The enclosure isolates the burnt zone under negative pressure and the assessor's air monitoring shows the rest of the building is clean.

What does the insurer or adjuster get from us?

The control plan, SWMS, SafeWork NSW notification, dated photos, waste dockets, air monitoring results and the assessor's clearance certificate in one pack. We are not the insurer, so check the policy.

How fast can you be in Sydney?

Call us and we will put you onto someone who can mobilise a licensed supervisor and the decontamination plant. We tell you straight rather than publish a response time.
