Biggest Asbestos and Hazmat Removal Companies in Brisbane and Queensland (2026)

Queensland has more large industrial asbestos sitting in place than most states: coal fired power stations approaching closure, sugar mills, alumina and chemical plants along the coast from Gladstone to Townsville, port infrastructure, and the pre 1990 hospitals, schools and government buildings of Brisbane itself. When one of those assets is decommissioned or redeveloped, the asbestos scope is measured in tonnes, the work is friable, and the contractor needs a Class A licence, trained crews in numbers and the plant to pull the structure down afterwards.

This guide is for the people buying that work in Brisbane and across Queensland: generators, miners, port and process plant owners, Queensland Health and Education project teams, and tier 1 builders. It names the biggest friable asbestos and hazardous materials removal companies working in the state. Perfect Contracting wrote it and is listed on it, first, held to the same factual standard as everyone else. The other companies are alphabetical, from their own websites and public reporting as at October 2026. Check licences with Workplace Health and Safety Queensland before you engage anyone, us included.

The biggest friable asbestos and hazmat contractors working in Brisbane and Queensland

Perfect Contracting

Perfect Contracting was founded in 2010 and runs its Queensland operation from Slacks Creek, south of Brisbane, alongside its Sydney head office. It is part of Perfect Group with Perfect Concrete Care, Perfect Remediation, Perfect Strip Out, Perfect Hire and DeconCut. In Queensland it holds demolition licence 2329458 from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, and WHSQ recognises its SafeWork NSW Friable Asbestos Removal Licence AD212957 for licensed asbestos removal in the state, covering Class A and Class B work. ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 are certified under one integrated management system, and the group worked more than 100,000 hours last financial year without a regulator notice.

Its friable and hazmat record runs through defence, energy and remote work: Garden Island, RAAF Base Richmond, Munmorah Power Station, large friable decontamination at Horsley Park, where around 5,000 tonnes of asbestos was removed and friable asbestos decontamination and demolition in Darwin. In Brisbane its crews and Brokk machines did the demolition and precision cutting at Roma Street Station for Cross River Rail.

The company owns a Volvo EC480 high reach excavator, built up to about 75 tonnes, and Brokk remote controlled demolition machines, with its own operators, so contaminated structures can be broken out by remote control and the demolition follows the asbestos removal without a second contractor. The company keeps a pool of around 100 people available for deployment at any time, and crews from Brisbane and Sydney travel together to regional Queensland for hazardous materials, emergency and industrial work. Abyss Demolition

Abyss Demolition was founded in 2002 and is headquartered at Loganholme with depots at Yatala and in Townsville. It publishes a Queensland Class A asbestos licence (2302889) covering friable and non-friable material, a Queensland demolition licence (2314642) and ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certification. Industrial and public work includes a cooling tower at Incitec Pivot's Phosphate Hill operation, the Merrimac sewage treatment plant, the Logan water tower and the Cairns Hospital mental health unit. Delta Group

Delta Group, established in 1988 and headquartered in Port Melbourne, runs its Queensland office at Hamilton in Brisbane and reports more than 1,300 personnel nationally with Class A and unrestricted asbestos licences and ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. Its Queensland hazmat work includes asbestos decontamination of stacker reclaimers at the Hay Point coal terminal for BMA, and its national record includes the Hazelwood and Liddell power stations. DEMEX

DEMEX has operated since 1993 from Yatala, between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, and publishes Queensland Class A asbestos licence 2321934, Queensland demolition licence 2321795 and ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. Its Queensland industrial work includes Callide Power Station and the Kalamia Sugar Mill, where it used a Brokk 200 demolition robot on the boiler stacks, and its largest hazmat job is the Mulwala explosives facility for Thales with around 990 tonnes of asbestos waste. Liberty Industrial

Liberty Industrial, founded in 2009 and based in Sydney, runs a Brisbane office at Bowen Hills and reports more than 350 employees with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. Its Queensland work includes demolition of the Bulwer Island clean fuels plant, an air separation plant at Gladstone, the Hay Point shiploader, the Newlands coal handling and preparation plant and around 80,000 cubic metres of asbestos contaminated soil at Theodore in Brisbane for Economic Development Queensland. What to check before you engage a friable asbestos contractor in Queensland

A Class A licence WHSQ will accept, held by the company you are contracting

In Queensland, friable asbestos removal needs a Class A licence from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland or an equivalent licence from another state that WHSQ recognises. Ask for the licence, confirm it with WHSQ, and make sure it belongs to the entity signing your contract. Licensed asbestos removal work also needs five days written notice to WHSQ before it starts.

Supervisors and crew numbers

Ask how many Class A supervisors the contractor employs, who will be on your site and how many removalists it can mobilise at peak. A power station, sugar mill or hospital decommissioning can need dozens of people in enclosures at once, and the Queensland pool of trained removalists is small. A contractor that brings crews from interstate holds the program.

Owned remote controlled and high reach plant

Contaminated boiler houses, plant rooms and basements are where you least want people on hand tools. Remote controlled machines do that work, and a high reach excavator takes the structure down afterwards. Of the companies above, Perfect Contracting and DEMEX publish owning both; Delta publishes demolition robots and large excavators; Liberty publishes a high reach fleet. Ask what each owns and what it would hire.

The whole hazmat survey

Queensland industrial sites carry lead paint, PCBs, synthetic mineral fibre, mercury, refractory fibre and PFAS alongside the asbestos. Ask the contractor to walk you through every material in the survey and the method and disposal path for each.

Hygiene, clearance and waste tracking

Ask who the independent occupational hygienist is, how enclosures are smoke tested and monitored, how clearance is certified, and where regulated waste goes. Queensland tracks regulated waste movements and your records should show every load.

Certification and regulator record

Ask for ISO 45001, 14001 and 9001 certificates with expiry dates and for the number of WHSQ or Department of Environment notices in the last financial year.

Frequently asked questions

Who are the biggest asbestos removal companies in Brisbane?

For friable, industrial and government work in Brisbane and Queensland the names to shortlist are Perfect Contracting, Abyss Demolition, Delta Group, DEMEX and Liberty Industrial. Compare them on the Class A licence, named supervisors, owned plant and a comparable project.

Does a NSW Class A licence work in Queensland?

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland can recognise an equivalent licence from another state. Perfect Contracting's NSW friable licence is recognised in Queensland on that basis. Ask any interstate contractor for the WHSQ confirmation.

How much notice does WHSQ need before asbestos removal?

Five days written notice before licensed asbestos removal work starts, and five days before demolition of load bearing structures six metres or more.

Can the same contractor remove the asbestos and demolish the plant?

Yes, where it holds both the Class A asbestos licence and the Queensland demolition licence and owns the demolition plant. That avoids a second mobilisation and a gap in the program.
