Perfect Contracting

HR Manager Jobs, Sydney

  • HR manager, construction recruitment
  • Sydney, Marrickville office
  • Full time
  • AU work rights required
Apply now, takes 2 minutes

We are hiring an HR Manager in Sydney. The job is to find and keep the people who run our sites: demolition supervisors, project engineers, site managers, leading hands, operators and asbestos supervisors, for Perfect Contracting first and the other Perfect Group businesses alongside it. Perfect Contracting is the flagship of Perfect Group: Perfect Contracting, Perfect Concrete Care, Perfect Remediation and Refurbishment, Perfect Strip Out and Demolition, and Perfect Industries in Queensland. About 150 people, head office in Marrickville, and a Great Place to Work certification we intend to keep.

We are growing and the bottleneck is people, not work. You will report to the Managing Director, sit with the operations managers, and be trusted to build and run recruitment properly rather than react to it. Sydney based, Marrickville office, with time on our sites so you understand who you are hiring for.

Fill in the form below and someone will ring you back within one business day. Attach a CV if you have one handy, or reply to the confirmation email with it.

    The basics

One minute. Seven quick answers, then a second page about your experience.

We are hiring in NSW, QLD and WA, including FIFO mining work out of Perth. Pick "Anywhere in Australia" if you will travel.
You must already have the right to work in Australia. We are not able to sponsor visas.
Pick the closest one. The next questions change to match.
PDF or Word, up to 5MB. If you do not have one on your phone, submit anyway and reply to our email with it.

    Your experience

The more you tick, the better we can match you to a job.

Optional. Roughly how many years on each of these? Leave blank if it does not apply.

Piling rigs, anchors, shotcrete, soldier piles and shoring. Running it or doing it both count.

    References and availability

Optional now, we will ask when we call you. A work reference or a character reference, name, company and phone.
Fly-in fly-out, drive-in drive-out, or away for a stint. The away jobs usually pay better.
Pick the one that suits you best right now. Regional NSW, regional Queensland and remote sites are all on the list.

A few lines is fine. Real employers and real jobs, because this is what we search when a role comes up.

    What the job is

    • Own recruitment end to end for site leadership and skilled roles: write the ads, run the job pages and job boards, screen, interview with the operations managers, make offers and get people started. Supervisors, project engineers, site managers, leading hands, plant operators and asbestos supervisors are the priority list.
    • Build a pipeline, not a scramble. Keep a live bench of good people for the roles we hire again and again, and go and find candidates rather than waiting for them to apply.
    • Run onboarding and compliance: work rights, licences and tickets, VOCs, medicals, inductions, Assignar profiles, so a new starter is on site legally and quickly.
    • Look after retention: probation reviews, pay reviews with the MD, career steps for good people, exit conversations that tell us something useful.
    • HR generalist work for the group: contracts and letters under the Building and Construction General On-site Award and our salaried agreements, performance and conduct matters with the managers, policies, and being the person people can talk to.

    What we look for

Tell us what you have actually done. If you are strong on most of this and keen on the rest, still apply.

    • At least five years in HR or recruitment with real time in construction, civil, demolition, mining or labour hire, and you know what a good supervisor or project engineer looks like on paper and in the room.
    • You have hired volume and hired quality at the same time. Tell us the numbers you have carried.
    • Working knowledge of the Fair Work system and the construction awards, and the judgement to know when to get advice.
    • Comfortable on site in boots and a hard hat, and comfortable in a Tier 1 client's compliance meeting.
    • Practical with systems: an ATS or job board tooling, HRIS, Assignar or similar, and Excel that does what you tell it. An HR or business degree is welcome, experience matters more.

    What it pays

Pay depends on experience. Tell us what you are on and we will be straight with you. A vehicle allowance and phone are part of the package. Office hours, Marrickville, with flexibility that runs both ways. People tend to stay with us once they start: the crew is energetic, dedicated and good to work alongside, and we back them.

    Other names for this job

Companies label this role differently and so do candidates. If your last job was called HR manager, human resources manager, HR business partner, people and culture manager, head of people, recruitment manager, talent acquisition manager, HR generalist, construction HR manager or HR lead, and the work matches what is above, this is the same job. We hire on what you have run and delivered, not on the title.

What we are like to work for

We are a young business and we are growing. That is the honest pitch. It means the structure is not set in concrete, there is room to move up if you are any good, and the person who decides is not six layers away from site. We buy decent gear, we back people who bring a better way of doing something, and safety is not a poster in the lunch room. On Tier 1 jobs it is the thing that keeps you working.

    Work rights

You need the right to work in Australia. We do not sponsor visas and we do not charge anyone a fee to apply or to be placed, ever. If someone asks you for money to get a job with us, it is not us. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.

    What happens after you apply

    • You get an email straight away confirming we have your application.
    • Someone rings you within one business day, on the mobile number you give us.
    • If you did not attach a CV, reply to that confirmation email with it. It is the fastest way to get in front of us.
    • We keep your details on file. Even if there is nothing today, we come back to people when the right job lands.

    Where the job is

Head office, 4/8 Lilian Fowler Place, Marrickville, ten minutes from Sydney Airport and on the Bankstown line. Our sites are across greater Sydney, the Hunter, Wollongong, Canberra and regional New South Wales, with the Queensland office at Slacks Creek. This role is Sydney based.

    Other roles

We are hiring the HR and Recruitment Coordinator job at the same time, and the roles you would be filling are all listed on the Work With Us page: Demolition Supervisor, Project Manager and Engineer, Leading Hand and the rest.
