Demolition Leading Hand Jobs

We are hiring demolition leading hands. The person on the tools who runs a small crew, keeps the sequence honest and steps up when the supervisor is on another part of the site, on commercial, industrial and civil jobs in Sydney, Brisbane and regional New South Wales.

This is the step between labourer and supervisor. If you have been the one the crew looks to for years without the title or the pay, this is the title and the pay. Leading hands who want the supervisor qualification get put through it.

What the work is

• Running a crew of three to eight on the tools, setting the day up from the prestart and keeping it moving.
• Holding the exclusion zones and the demolition sequence when the supervisor is not standing next to you.
• Toolbox talks, SWMS sign ons and the daily photos and paperwork the head contractor wants.
• Hands on demolition, hazmat and machine spotting alongside the crew, not watching from the ute.
• Telling the supervisor early when something is not right, and telling the crew straight when they are not.

Tickets and experience we look for

Tell us what you actually hold. Missing one or two is not a problem.

• Three or more years in demolition or a close trade, with time leading people.
• White Card, plus Working at Heights, Confined Space, EWP or machine tickets.
• Asbestos removal ticket and supervision experience are a big plus.
• Demolition supervisor units or the willingness to do them with our support.
• A driver licence, and a truck licence helps.

What it pays

Pay depends on experience and tickets. Tell us what you are on and we will be straight with you. Travel work pays more, and there is interstate work for people who want it. People tend to stay with us once they start: the crew is energetic, dedicated and good to work alongside, and we back them.

Companies label this role differently and so do candidates. If your last job was called leading hand, demolition leading hand, crew leader, team leader construction, working foreman, site leading hand, labour leading hand, civil leading hand or ganger, and the work matches what is above, this is the same job. We hire on what you can do on the tools, not on the title.

Head office is Marrickville in Sydney and the Queensland base is at Slacks Creek. We have crews on projects across greater Sydney, the Hunter, Wollongong, Canberra, regional New South Wales and South East Queensland, and we are building the Western Australia crew now.
