Perfect Contracting

Demolition Estimator Jobs, Sydney

  • Demolition estimator
  • Sydney, Marrickville office
  • Steady flow of tenders, full time
  • AU work rights required
Apply now, takes 2 minutes

We are hiring a demolition estimator in Sydney. Perfect Contracting prices a steady flow of demolition work: structural and high reach demolition, strip out, asbestos and hazmat removal, plant decommissioning and the early works that go with them, for Tier 1 builders, government and industrial clients. We need an estimator who has priced that kind of work before and can turn a set of drawings, a hazmat report and a site walk into a number we can win with and deliver on. Perfect Contracting is the flagship of Perfect Group: Perfect Contracting, Perfect Concrete Care, Perfect Remediation and Refurbishment, Perfect Strip Out and Demolition, and Perfect Industries in Queensland. About 150 people, head office in Marrickville, and a Great Place to Work certification we intend to keep.

You will work with the Managing Director, the tender coordinator and the project managers in the Marrickville office. You own the estimate: the take off, the methodology, the plant and crew build up, the subcontractor and disposal quotes, the risk and the margin call, and the scope letter that goes out with the price. Marrickville office, Sydney based.

Fill in the form below and someone will ring you back within one business day. Attach a CV if you have one handy, or reply to the confirmation email with it. Pick "Office, estimating and admin" as the kind of work and "Estimator" as the role.

    References and availability

Optional now, we will ask when we call you. A work reference or a character reference, name, company and phone.
Fly-in fly-out, drive-in drive-out, or away for a stint. The away jobs usually pay better.
Pick the one that suits you best right now. Regional NSW, regional Queensland and remote sites are all on the list.

A few lines is fine. Real employers and real jobs, because this is what we search when a role comes up.

    What the job is

    • Take offs from drawings, hazmat reports, structural reports and site walks: floor areas, volumes, tonnages, contaminated materials, services to isolate, what stays and what goes.
    • Methodology and programme: how the building comes down, top down or high reach, what machines and attachments, what protection and scaffold, how long, how many people. The estimate has to match a method we would actually use.
    • Build up the rates: our own plant and crews at real productivity, subcontractor quotes for scaffold, cranes, traffic and specialist trades, tip fees and recycling rebates by waste stream, asbestos disposal, cartage. You keep the rate library honest.
    • Price the risk: latent conditions, asbestos not on the register, access, working hours, neighbours, hold points and client systems. Say what is in, what is out and what it costs.
    • Put the tender together with the tender coordinator: pricing schedules, scope letters, clarifications and departures, and the site visits and questions that come before the price goes in.
    • Hand over to delivery: walk the project manager through the estimate, the assumptions and the margins so the job is built the way it was priced, then learn from the actual costs.

    What we look for

Tell us what you have actually priced. If you are strong on most of this and keen on the rest, still apply.

    • At least three years estimating demolition, strip out or asbestos removal for a contractor. Site experience before that, as a supervisor, engineer or leading hand, is a real advantage.
    • You have priced jobs from a few hundred thousand dollars to several million and won some of them, and you can tell us what went right and wrong on the ones you lost.
    • You read structural drawings, hazmat registers and remediation action plans, and you know what the asbestos licence, the demolition licence and the SafeWork notifications mean for the price.
    • Confident with Excel take offs and rate build ups, and with take off software such as Bluebeam or similar. Pipedrive or another CRM is a plus.
    • Straight with numbers and straight with people. You will be pushed on margin by the Managing Director and on method by the site team, and you can hold your ground with both.

    What it pays

Pay depends on what you have run and what you are on now. Tell us on the form or in the first call and we will be straight with you. Office hours, Marrickville, with flexibility that runs both ways and site walks when the job needs them. People tend to stay with us once they start: the crew is energetic, dedicated and good to work alongside, and we back them.

    Other names for this job

Companies label this role differently. Demolition estimator, demolition and asbestos estimator, strip out estimator, deconstruction estimator, contracts estimator, estimator and contracts administrator, pre-construction estimator, tender estimator. If your last job was any of those on the contractor side and you priced demolition packages, this is the same job. We hire on what you have priced and won, not on the title.

What we are like to work for

We are a young business and we are growing. That is the honest pitch. It means the structure is not set in concrete, there is room to move up if you are any good, and the person who decides is not six layers away from site. We buy decent gear, we back people who bring a better way of doing something, and safety is not a poster in the lunch room. On Tier 1 jobs it is the thing that keeps you working.

    Work rights

You need the right to work in Australia. We do not sponsor visas and we do not charge anyone a fee to apply or to be placed, ever. If someone asks you for money to get a job with us, it is not us. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.

    What happens after you apply

    • You get an email straight away confirming we have your application.
    • Someone rings you within one business day, on the mobile number you give us.
    • If you did not attach a CV, reply to that confirmation email with it. It is the fastest way to get in front of us.
    • We keep your details on file. Even if there is nothing today, we come back to people when the right job lands.

    Where the job is

Head office, 4/8 Lilian Fowler Place, Marrickville, ten minutes from Sydney Airport and on the Bankstown line. You will price work across Sydney, the Hunter, Wollongong, Canberra, regional New South Wales and, with the Queensland team, South East Queensland. This role is Sydney based.

    Other roles

We are also hiring a Civil Works Estimator and a Tender Submission and Bid Coordinator to work alongside this role, plus civil engineers in Sydney and Brisbane. Every Perfect Contracting role is on the Work With Us page.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flagsPerfect Contracting acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as Traditional Custodians of the country on which we live and work. We pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians and Elders past, present and future, and honour their connection to the land and ongoing contribution to society.
