Perfect Contracting

Civil Works Estimator Jobs, Sydney

  • Civil works estimator
  • Sydney, Marrickville office
  • Excavation, piling and remediation, full time
  • AU work rights required
Apply now, takes 2 minutes

We are hiring a civil works estimator in Sydney. The civil side of Perfect Contracting is growing fast: bulk and detailed excavation, piling and shoring, ground anchors, underpinning, contaminated soil and remediation packages, for Tier 1 builders, government and industrial clients. We need an estimator who has priced that work for a contractor and can turn a geotech report, a set of structural drawings and a remediation action plan into a number that wins and holds. Perfect Contracting is the flagship of Perfect Group: Perfect Contracting, Perfect Concrete Care, Perfect Remediation and Refurbishment, Perfect Strip Out and Demolition, and Perfect Industries in Queensland. About 150 people, head office in Marrickville, and a Great Place to Work certification we intend to keep.

You will work with the Managing Director, the tender coordinator, our civil engineers and the project managers in the Marrickville office. You own the estimate from take off to scope letter: quantities, methodology, plant and crew build up, subcontractor and disposal quotes, risk and margin. Marrickville office, Sydney based.

Fill in the form below and someone will ring you back within one business day. Attach a CV if you have one handy, or reply to the confirmation email with it. Pick "Office, estimating and admin" as the kind of work and "Estimator" as the role.

Pick the closest one. The next questions change to match.
PDF or Word, up to 5MB. If you do not have one on your phone, submit anyway and reply to our email with it.

    Your experience

    References and availability

Optional now, we will ask when we call you. A work reference or a character reference, name, company and phone.
Fly-in fly-out, drive-in drive-out, or away for a stint. The away jobs usually pay better.
Pick the one that suits you best right now. Regional NSW, regional Queensland and remote sites are all on the list.

A few lines is fine. Real employers and real jobs, because this is what we search when a role comes up.

    What the job is

    • Take offs from drawings, survey and geotechnical reports: cut and fill volumes, batters and benching, spoil by classification, pile schedules, shoring and anchor quantities, dewatering, haulage cycles.
    • Methodology and programme: how the hole gets dug and held up, what rigs and excavators, how the spoil leaves site, what the temporary works designer needs from us and when. We install to the engineer's design, we do not design it, and the estimate has to reflect that.
    • Build up the rates: our own excavators, trucks and crews at real productivity, piling and shoring subcontractor quotes, spoil disposal and licensed receiver fees by classification, imported fill, survey, dewatering, traffic and environmental controls.
    • Contaminated land pricing: read the site investigation and the RAP, price the classification, tracking and disposal, the validation and the paperwork, and know where the risk sits when the ground is not what the report said.
    • Put the tender together with the tender coordinator: pricing schedules, scope letters, clarifications and departures, site visits and tender questions.
    • Hand over to delivery: walk the civil engineer and project manager through the estimate, the assumptions and the margins, then track actual costs against the estimate so the next price is sharper.

    What we look for

Tell us what you have actually priced. If you are strong on most of this and keen on the rest, still apply.

    • At least three years estimating civil, excavation, piling or remediation work for a contractor. A civil engineering or construction management background is welcome, contractor side pricing experience matters more.
    • You have priced bulk excavation, piling or shoring packages from a few hundred thousand dollars to several million, and you know the difference between a rate that wins and a rate that hurts.
    • You read geotech reports, structural and temporary works drawings, survey data and remediation action plans, and you know the NSW EPA waste classification guidelines well enough to price spoil properly.
    • Confident with Excel take offs and rate build ups, and with take off or earthworks software such as Bluebeam, Trimble or similar. Pipedrive or another CRM is a plus.
    • Straight with numbers and straight with people. You will be pushed on margin by the Managing Director and on method by the engineers, and you can hold your ground with both.

    What it pays

Pay depends on what you have run and what you are on now. Tell us on the form or in the first call and we will be straight with you. Office hours, Marrickville, with flexibility that runs both ways and site walks when the job needs them. People tend to stay with us once they start: the crew is energetic, dedicated and good to work alongside, and we back them.

    Other names for this job

Companies label this role differently. Civil estimator, civil works estimator, earthworks estimator, excavation estimator, piling estimator, foundations estimator, remediation estimator, contracts estimator, pre-construction estimator, tender estimator. If your last job was any of those on the contractor side and you priced excavation, piling or contaminated soil packages, this is the same job. We hire on what you have priced and won, not on the title.

What we are like to work for

We are a young business and we are growing. That is the honest pitch. It means the structure is not set in concrete, there is room to move up if you are any good, and the person who decides is not six layers away from site. We buy decent gear, we back people who bring a better way of doing something, and safety is not a poster in the lunch room. On Tier 1 jobs it is the thing that keeps you working.

    Work rights

You need the right to work in Australia. We do not sponsor visas and we do not charge anyone a fee to apply or to be placed, ever. If someone asks you for money to get a job with us, it is not us. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.

    What happens after you apply

    • You get an email straight away confirming we have your application.
    • Someone rings you within one business day, on the mobile number you give us.
    • If you did not attach a CV, reply to that confirmation email with it. It is the fastest way to get in front of us.
    • We keep your details on file. Even if there is nothing today, we come back to people when the right job lands.

    Where the job is

Head office, 4/8 Lilian Fowler Place, Marrickville, ten minutes from Sydney Airport and on the Bankstown line. You will price work across Sydney, the Hunter, Wollongong, Canberra, regional New South Wales and, with the Queensland team, South East Queensland. This role is Sydney based.

    Other roles

We are also hiring a Demolition Estimator and a Tender Submission and Bid Coordinator to work alongside this role, plus civil engineers in Sydney and Brisbane. Every Perfect Contracting role is on the Work With Us page.

We pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians and Elders past, present and future, and honour their connection to the land and ongoing contribution to society.
