Perfect Contracting

Safety Manager Jobs, WHS, National

  • Safety Manager, WHS, national role
  • Sydney and Brisbane offices
  • Full time, runs WHS across the business
  • AU work rights required
Apply now, takes 2 minutes

We are hiring a Safety Manager to run work health and safety across Perfect Contracting nationally. We run structural and high reach demolition, asbestos and hazmat removal, strip out, industrial decommissioning, contaminated land and civil works for Tier 1 builders, government and industry. Our safety management system is certified to ISO 45001, our clients audit it, and the work we do is high risk every day. The job is to keep that system working on every site, not just on paper.

This is a national role. You will be based in Sydney or Brisbane, report to the Managing Director, and spend real time on site with the supervisors and crews in New South Wales, Queensland and wherever the work takes us. You will lead the safety coordinators and set the standard for how we plan and run high risk work.

Fill in the form below and someone will ring you back within one business day. Attach a CV if you have one handy, or reply to the confirmation email with it.

    The basics

One minute. Seven quick answers, then a second page about your experience.

We are hiring in NSW, QLD and WA, including FIFO mining work out of Perth. Pick "Anywhere in Australia" if you will travel.
You must already have the right to work in Australia. We are not able to sponsor visas.
Pick the closest one. The next questions change to match.
PDF or Word, up to 5MB. If you do not have one on your phone, submit anyway and reply to our email with it.

    Your experience

The more you tick, the better we can match you to a job.

Optional. Roughly how many years on each of these? Leave blank if it does not apply.

Piling rigs, anchors, shotcrete, soldier piles and shoring. Running it or doing it both count.

    References and availability

Optional now, we will ask when we call you. A work reference or a character reference, name, company and phone.
Fly-in fly-out, drive-in drive-out, or away for a stint. The away jobs usually pay better.
Pick the one that suits you best right now. Regional NSW, regional Queensland and remote sites are all on the list.

A few lines is fine. Real employers and real jobs, because this is what we search when a role comes up.

    What the job is

    • Own the WHS management system: policies, procedures, SWMS templates, demolition work plans and asbestos removal control plans, kept current with the legislation and through the ISO 45001 surveillance audits.
    • Lead the safety coordinators in Sydney and Brisbane, and back the supervisors and project managers on the work we do every day: structural demolition, work at heights, asbestos, silica, confined spaces, mobile plant and excavation.
    • Run incident reporting and investigation properly: notifiable incidents to the regulator, root cause found, corrective actions closed out and not just logged.
    • Front up to clients and regulators: prequalification, Tier 1 safety reviews, the safety sections of our tenders, principal contractor duties, and SafeWork NSW and WHSQ visits.
    • Consultation and training: toolbox talks, HSR and committee arrangements, inductions, the training and ticket matrix, and health monitoring for asbestos and silica workers.
    • Report to the MD every month on lead and lag indicators, audit findings, trends and where money needs to be spent.

    What we look for

Tell us what you have actually done. If you are strong on most of this and keen on the rest, still apply.

    • At least five years in a lead WHS role in construction, demolition, civil, mining or heavy industry, including time managing other safety people.
    • A WHS qualification: Diploma, Graduate Diploma or degree. Certificate IV at the very least.
    • Working knowledge of the WHS Act and Regulations in New South Wales and Queensland, the demolition and asbestos codes of practice, and the silica rules.
    • Experience maintaining an ISO 45001 system through external audit. A lead auditor qualification is a plus.
    • An asbestos assessor licence, occupational hygiene background or demolition supervision history puts you well ahead.
    • Just as comfortable on a demolition site at 6am as in a client's boardroom at 2pm. Driver licence and happy to travel.

    What it pays

Pay depends on experience. Tell us what you are on and we will be straight with you. Travel work pays more, and there is interstate work for people who want it. People tend to stay with us once they start: the crew is energetic, dedicated and good to work alongside, and we back them.

    Other names for this job

Companies label this role differently and so do candidates. If your last job was called safety manager, WHS manager, HSE manager, HSEQ manager, health and safety manager, national safety manager, construction safety manager, safety lead, head of safety, WHS and quality manager, and the work matches what is above, this is the same job. We hire on what you have run and delivered, not on the title.

What we are like to work for

We are a young business and we are growing. That is the honest pitch. It means the structure is not set in concrete, there is room to move up if you are any good, and the person who decides is not six layers away from site. We buy decent gear, we back people who bring a better way of doing something, and safety is not a poster in the lunch room. On Tier 1 jobs it is the thing that keeps you working.

    Work rights

You need the right to work in Australia. We do not sponsor visas and we do not charge anyone a fee to apply or to be placed, ever. If someone asks you for money to get a job with us, it is not us. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.

    What happens after you apply

    • You get an email straight away confirming we have your application.
    • Someone rings you within one business day, on the mobile number you give us.
    • If you did not attach a CV, reply to that confirmation email with it. It is the fastest way to get in front of us.
    • We keep your details on file. Even if there is nothing today, we come back to people when the right job lands.

    Where the job is

Based at our Marrickville head office in Sydney or our Queensland office at Slacks Creek, whichever suits you, with regular travel to sites across New South Wales, Queensland and interstate. This is a national role.

    Other roles

We are also hiring a Safety Coordinator, Sydney, Safety Coordinator, Brisbane. Every Perfect Contracting role is on the Work With Us page.
