Safety Coordinator Jobs, Sydney

  • Safety Coordinator, WHS
  • Sydney projects
  • Full time on demolition and civil sites
  • AU work rights required
Apply now, takes 2 minutes

We are hiring a Safety Coordinator in Sydney. You will look after WHS on our Sydney projects. We run structural and high reach demolition, asbestos and hazmat removal, strip out, industrial decommissioning, contaminated land and civil works for Tier 1 builders, government and industry. Our safety management system is certified to ISO 45001, our clients audit it, and the work we do is high risk every day. This job is making that system work on site.

You will split your week between our sites across greater Sydney and the Marrickville office, working with the supervisors and project managers and reporting to the Safety Manager. It suits someone who has been a safety officer or advisor on construction sites and wants to own the safety side of a busy team.

Fill in the form below and someone will ring you back within one business day. Attach a CV if you have one handy, or reply to the confirmation email with it.

    The basics

One minute. Seven quick answers, then a second page about your experience.

We are hiring in NSW, QLD and WA, including FIFO mining work out of Perth. Pick "Anywhere in Australia" if you will travel.
You must already have the right to work in Australia. We are not able to sponsor visas.
Pick the closest one. The next questions change to match.
PDF or Word, up to 5MB. If you do not have one on your phone, submit anyway and reply to our email with it.

    Your experience

The more you tick, the better we can match you to a job.

Optional. Roughly how many years on each of these? Leave blank if it does not apply.

Piling rigs, anchors, shotcrete, soldier piles and shoring. Running it or doing it both count.

    References and availability

Optional now, we will ask when we call you. A work reference or a character reference, name, company and phone.
Fly-in fly-out, drive-in drive-out, or away for a stint. The away jobs usually pay better.
Pick the one that suits you best right now. Regional NSW, regional Queensland and remote sites are all on the list.

A few lines is fine. Real employers and real jobs, because this is what we search when a role comes up.

    What the job is

    • Site inspections and audits on active jobs, and following up what you find until it is closed out.
    • Reviewing SWMS, demolition work plans and permits before work starts, then checking the crew is working to them.
    • Inductions, toolbox talks and prestart safety topics, and keeping the training and ticket register current.
    • Incident and near miss reporting: first response support, investigations with the supervisor, corrective actions entered and closed.
    • Asbestos and silica controls: air monitoring with the hygienist, health monitoring records and clearance paperwork.
    • Helping the project teams with client safety reporting, principal contractor documents and SafeWork NSW visits.

    What we look for

Tell us what you have actually done. If you are strong on most of this and keen on the rest, still apply.

    • Certificate IV in WHS at minimum. A Diploma or higher is a plus.
    • Two or more years as a safety officer, advisor or coordinator on construction, demolition or civil sites.
    • Working knowledge of the WHS Act and Regulations in New South Wales, SWMS and high risk construction work.
    • White Card, a driver licence and your own way to site.
    • Asbestos awareness, Working at Heights, confined space or first aid tickets are all useful.
    • Organised, firm and good with people. You can stop a job when you have to and keep the crew on side while you do it.

    What it pays

Pay depends on experience. Tell us what you are on and we will be straight with you. Travel work pays more, and there is interstate work for people who want it. People tend to stay with us once they start: the crew is energetic, dedicated and good to work alongside, and we back them.

    Other names for this job

Companies label this role differently and so do candidates. If your last job was called safety coordinator, WHS coordinator, HSE coordinator, HSEQ coordinator, safety advisor, WHS advisor, safety officer, site safety officer, health and safety coordinator, construction safety coordinator, and the work matches what is above, this is the same job. We hire on what you have run and delivered, not on the title.

What we are like to work for

We are a young business and we are growing. That is the honest pitch. It means the structure is not set in concrete, there is room to move up if you are any good, and the person who decides is not six layers away from site. We buy decent gear, we back people who bring a better way of doing something, and safety is not a poster in the lunch room. On Tier 1 jobs it is the thing that keeps you working.

    Work rights

You need the right to work in Australia. We do not sponsor visas and we do not charge anyone a fee to apply or to be placed, ever. If someone asks you for money to get a job with us, it is not us. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.

    What happens after you apply

    • You get an email straight away confirming we have your application.
    • Someone rings you within one business day, on the mobile number you give us.
    • If you did not attach a CV, reply to that confirmation email with it. It is the fastest way to get in front of us.
    • We keep your details on file. Even if there is nothing today, we come back to people when the right job lands.

    Where the job is

Head office, 4/8 Lilian Fowler Place, Marrickville, ten minutes from Sydney Airport. Our Sydney sites run across greater Sydney, the Hunter, Wollongong and Canberra. This role is Sydney based.
