Most Gold Coast commercial buildings put up before 1990 contain asbestos somewhere: sprayed coatings on steel in club ceilings, lagging in hotel plant rooms, fibro in shop awnings, vinyl floors through old retail strips. It sits quietly until a refurbishment, a fire or a storm exposes it, and then every trade walks off site until it is gone.
