Mine closure and rehabilitation works

Most mine closure plans are written by an environmental consultant and delivered by somebody else. We are the somebody else. Perfect Contracting takes the earthworks, demolition and contamination scope out of a closure and rehabilitation plan and executes it, on remote sites, under the same licences and management system we run on Tier 1 infrastructure work.

What we do, and what we do not

We are straight about this because closure managers ask early and the wrong answer wastes everyone’s time.

We deliver: infrastructure demolition and decommissioning, bulk earthworks and excavation, contaminated soil remediation including acid sulphate and hydrocarbon impacted ground, water treatment, hazardous material removal, and the waste tracking and disposal that goes with all of it.

We do not write your rehabilitation plan, and we do not do the ecology. Final landform design, revegetation and native seeding, topsoil specification and long-term ecological monitoring sit with your environmental consultant and your rehabilitation specialists. We work to their plan and they validate our work. You would not want your works contractor marking their own homework on a closure obligation that runs for a decade.

The scope we take

Infrastructure removal. Processing plant, CHPP, conveyors and transfer towers, workshops, crib rooms and camp buildings, tanks, silos and bins, steel structures, concrete footings and hardstand. High-reach and long-reach excavators for tall structures, Brokk robotic plant where it is too hazardous to put people, and induced collapse where the engineering supports it.

Contamination. Hydrocarbon impacted ground around workshops and fuel farms, acid sulphate soils, asbestos in soil and in built structures, lead paint, PCB oil spills, and general hazardous and toxic waste. We hold Class A friable and Class B asbestos licences and carry $20 million in asbestos liability cover.

Earthworks. Bulk excavation, backfill, site regrading and the civil work that gets a site to the profile your closure plan calls for. Pile and shoring installation where structures need to come out safely.

Water. Treatment plant design, operation, maintenance, removal and the reporting that goes with it.

Waste. On-site segregation with over 90 per cent of material diverted to reuse or recycling, chain of custody documentation, digital tracking, and licensed transporters and facilities only. On a closure job the disposal dockets are half the evidence pack, so we hand them over as we go rather than at the end.

Closure studies and early pricing

If you are still building the closure cost estimate, we will price the works scope from drawings and a site walk before there is a tender. Closure studies, due diligence, risk assessment, staging options and cost analysis. Getting a real number into the provision early is usually worth more than shaving the tender later.

Remote and regional work

We mobilise anywhere in Australia for projects above $250,000. Remote Queensland, Western Australia, the Northern Territory and the Bowen Basin are normal work for us, not an exception. Below that figure the mobilisation and accommodation cost usually beats the saving, and we will tell you rather than dress up a price.

Licences and systems

NSW Class A friable asbestos removal licence AD212957, valid to July 2028 and accepted by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland as an equivalent licence, confirmed in April 2024. Queensland demolition licence 2329458. NSW EPA waste transport licence EPL 21796 covering Category 1 and Category 2 trackable waste. Certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. $20 million public liability with a $20 million asbestos liability sub-limit.

Questions we get asked

Do you write the mine closure plan?
No. We deliver the works scope inside a plan your consultant writes. We are happy to sit in the planning workshops and tell you what a given closure option actually costs to build, which is usually where we add the most value early.

Can you do the revegetation?
Not in house. We get the landform and the contamination right so the rehabilitation contractor can do their part properly. We work alongside them regularly.

Will you travel for one job?
Above $250,000, yes, and we do it often. Remote work is normal for this class of job.

How do you handle asbestos found in soil?
Under our own Class A and Class B licences rather than subcontracted out, from hand picking through to bulk removal, with the material leaving site under our own EPA tracking.

Who validates the work?
Your environmental consultant or an independent assessor, not us.
